Discovery of Remains
Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger confirmed that the remains of 39-year-old Tamara Nichole Evans, of Campobello, were found in a wooded area near Wilson Drive. According to the coroner’s office, the remains were found near Highway 11 and I-26.
The grim discovery was made on Monday, August 3, 2026, in a heavily wooded area close to Interstate 26 in the rural outskirts of Campobello, South Carolina.
Disappearance and Search Timeline
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said Evans was reported missing on June 26 and was last seen leaving a home on Melvin Hill Road.
The sheriff’s office said Tamara “Nicki” Nicole Evans was last seen leaving the 100 block of Melvin Hill Road in Campobello around noon on Friday.

The sheriff’s office reports Evans suffered from mental issues and made statements indicating that she may harm herself.
Search Tactics:
Her father stated that searches had been conducted using drones and dogs, and the scents kept “coming back in the same place.” There were a couple of spots where investigators thought she might have been waiting on somebody to pick her up, but her phone had not been recovered.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said it worked to notify the next of kin for the skeletal remains that were found Monday. While the remains had been identified, the coroner’s office initially waited until the next of kin, which is the husband, was notified to release the identity. The father had put out information on social media prior to the official release.
Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger positively identified her remains on August 4, 2026.
Next Steps:
An anthropology exam will be completed due to her remains being skeletonized, officials said. As the investigation continues, authorities will share more information, including Evans’s cause and manner of death, in the coming days and weeks.
Her death remains under investigation by the SCSO and Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.
