A decade-old unsolved disappearance from South Elgin, Illinois is getting renewed national attention through a true-crime television series now streaming on Roku.

KAOS After Dark TV is a channel on Roku featuring bold and creative shows that go beyond the boundaries of ordinary television. The channel is now home to Missing Lost Trafficked Investigations, a true-crime series that examines unsolved missing-persons and trafficking cases across the United States. The series uncovers dark true crime stories of missing persons, lost souls, and trafficking victims, shedding light on investigations, and the pursuit of justice by law enforcement, families, and activists.

Episode 32, titled “What Really Happened to Kianna Galvin,” focuses on the disappearance of Kianna Galvin, who was just 17 years old when she vanished from South Elgin, Illinois, on May 6, 2016. The episode is produced under the leadership of Executive News Producer Cherise “Pebbles” Wilson.

Who Is Kianna Galvin?

Kianna was last seen in South Elgin, Illinois on May 6, 2016. At 12:30 p.m., she told a family member she was going to walk to Jim Hansen Park and would return in a few hours. She never returned and has never been heard from again.

She left behind her wallet, purse, and cell phone charger. Her cellular phone hasn’t been used since 2:00 p.m. the day she went missing.

Kianna’s nose and navel are pierced. She has a tattoo of a heart and cross on her left wrist. She was last seen wearing a black tank top, yoga pants, and brown sunglasses.

What Happened That Day?

Authorities stated that instead of going to the park on the day she disappeared, Kianna went to visit a man who lived in the basement of a residence on Revere Road. A neighbor later reported that they saw Kianna going into the house, but she did not come out. Her cell phone died or was shut off several hours later, and she hasn’t been seen since.

The same neighbor found blood on his garbage can lid on May 12, six days after Kianna’s disappearance. The blood was later confirmed to be Kianna’s.

The man Kianna visited on the day of her disappearance was later convicted of assaulting a woman and sentenced to fifteen years in prison. He has not been named as a suspect in her disappearance, but he is a person of interest, and police searched his residence in November 2016. What, if anything, was recovered has not been released to the public. Foul play is suspected in Kianna’s disappearance; authorities believe she was murdered shortly after she disappeared.

2026: A Forensic Excavation Reopens Old Wounds

In a major development in 2026, ten years later, investigators are conducting a forensic excavation at a house in the 800-block of Revere Road, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said. Investigators are targeting the home after a Ground Penetrating Radar scan that “revealed anomalies beneath the surface.” A neighbor said he last saw Galvin going into the home the day she went missing.

According to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Fox Valley Major Crimes Task Force and South Elgin police are conducting the forensic excavation. The excavation is being conducted after investigators scanned the property with ground-penetrating radar, and the GPR scan revealed anomalies beneath the surface that authorities determined warranted further investigation.

The Kianna Alert: A Legacy Born From Tragedy

Kianna’s disappearance didn’t just haunt her community it changed Illinois state law.

A new alert system, called the Kianna Alert, is intended to help more people. The alert is named after a 17-year-old South Elgin girl named Kianna Galvin who disappeared in 2016.

The Amber Alert is only for people under 16 or people with disabilities, and police also have to believe the person is in danger. The Kianna Alert does not require proof of danger. Like the Amber Alert, in order to get a Kianna Alert, a missing person report has to be on file with the police.

Kianna’s mother believes an alert might have saved her daughter’s life.
